boca negra enojada

Well folks. The boca negra is not to be. It sits in a fudgy puddle on a plate in the fridge. Not sure what the damage was, but it certainly did not cook as suggested by Ms. Greenspan.

Don't worry. It's edible, and I'm happy to devour it in the privacy of my home, but I certainly won't be serving it to guests.

Plan B it is.

Truffles Pt 1

And the truffles are born! Though still in their infancy. I'm fairly certain the high alcohol content is increasing the required chill time for my ganache. Several attempts at truffle rolling have yielding a hand full of chocolate that couldn't go back into the bowl. I bet you can't guess what happened to it!

I will chill overnight and see how things look in the morning.

Oh yes. I forgot to mention in my introduction that I do not have a digital camera. Sort of ruins some of the fun of food blogging...

Birthday Party Planning

I'm having a party on Saturday.
Here's the planned menu:

Boca Negra Cake Fallen Chocolate Souffle
Pear and Dried Cherry Frangipane Cake
Coconut Rum Cake
Lime Cardamom Tart
Various Truffles

The challenge: Find 1300 grams of bittersweet chocolate for less than $20.

Inauguration

I do not have proper measuring cups. Or a blender. I have one wooden spoon.

And yet, I deign to bake a wide variety of delicious goodies on a regular basis. How can it be possible?!

This blog is my documentation, for posterity's sake, that great baking can happen in a kitchen that, woefully, looks nothing like Martha Stewart's.

Someday, when I am fabulously rich and enjoy the best kitchen money can buy, I will look back on this blog and laugh. I hope.
